Our Educational Plan

Preparing today's children for life tomorrow.

Over the years we have learned along with our children. One of the most valuable things we haveĀ come to understandĀ is that children are each their own unique selves. None of my children have developed or learned in the same ways. Each has been a different educational experience.

Our homeschool was originally founded in 1995. The purpose of education was to prepare our children for college through an advanced Christian education at home. Today Satori House of Learning has a different purpose. We seek to share a life of learning with our children. It is our mission to lay the foundation for knowledge, teach them to learn and inspire them to think logically for themselves so that they are prepared for whatever life choices they make in the future.

Our educational plan was developed through years of experience and research. What we have ended up with provides our children with a classical education that takes advantage of their natural curiosoity and interests.

Satori House of Learning makes use of three four year patterns for studying several subjects. This allows children of varying ages to work together at their own levels. It is implemented in first through twelfth grades. We have gone against the modern currant of early education to delay structured learning. It is our belief that children should not struggle to learn but embrace it with enthusiasm. Kindergarten is a time for a gentle approach to prepare the child for a more structured setting.

We have placed much importance on education flowing easily. We use a year long schedule for consistency and to prevent the children from forgetting things that are learned. Subjects are integrated for a whole learning experience.

Real books, classical textbooks, fictional books, videos, websites and hands on activites are used to learn about the world as we explore it. We use various time tested techniques to help the children to process and express what they have learned.

Preparing our children for adult responsibilties is a high priority. We guide them into being prepared by teaching them life skills through chores that build habits, assisting in the kitchen, around the house or in the yard to gain skill and through apprenticeship.

Socialization and fitness are important issues in our school. Children need healthy outlets for social activity and time to practice communication and friendship/relationship building. We provide opportunities for interaction and fitness through being active in our community as a family, participating in homeschool groups, being social in our neighborhood and participating in martial arts.

We have laid the foundation, the rest is up to them.
